For All Posters I gather the information I provided for 3 Rivers Archery was not useful to anyone, hence the deafening silence. I regret I couldn't find a place in Britain that provided similar things and I regret that the information was apparently useless. I am getting the feeling from this Forum in general that there is some sort of preference for advice/info which is provided by locals or from the more expert international archers. If that is so, I'll happily not get involved anymore. Advice in confirmation or denial of this would be appreciated. ![]()

Thanks for responding They are very good at international orders and in addition they supply a copy of their latest colour catalogue with the order. Even better once you have ordered form them they keep sending new catalogues as they are updated, gratis and unasked for. Good people. And no, I don't get a commission, sadly ![]()

I have been lucky several times with archery (and kendo) gear, sourcing from US and Australia- it's come through customs without being stopped. If it comes UPS it's usually OK, but if it comes with USPS-Royal Mail or Australia Post to Royal Mail your chances of being stopped seem higher. And when one does get caught in the customs net it hurts.... my better half recently imported some valves from the US for his amp, he had to pay VAT at 17% plus import duty (about 4% I think) then the postal service slapped on an "administration fee" that was almost the same amount as the total tax... They also hung onto his parcel for 3 days before telling him about the payment required, then he had to go pay, then arrange for re-delivery. More than a week after the parcel arrived in the UK he finally received it, minus a lot more cash.If you can source within the UK, you know what you will pay- importing stuff is a real lottery, in general I will only import if I cannot source in UK because of the tax uncertainty. You never know when a shipment will be stopped and what your final bill will be. If it is stopped, you face a long wait plus a hefty bill- often making the items much more expensive than they would have been. So much for Free Trade! P.

Good Grief! I had no idea that you folks got hit with so much extra tax and customs! We used to be the same but when they introduced GST here (equiv to your VAT) custom duties pretty much disappeared from the scene for most things. I now find it cheaper to buy from the States or the UK in most cases than from dealers here in Australia, by a considerable margin. You poor dears. You should all consdier emigrating. We need more good folks here. ![]()

Actually, some of my folks emigrates to Oz a few (well OK more than 20) years ago, ended up in Perth. I haven't seen/heard form them in years, but I gather they much preferred their new home to the grey dismal pessimism they left behind. P.

The problem is that you can get too much of a good thing. Blue skies are great but you occasionally need water to fall from them and we are in the midst of one of the worst droughts on record and it ain't getting any better. ![]()
