Smoggie's jig just has wod cut-outs, so long as you roll it by hand it works fine. Could line the grooves with a bit of that sticky green baize/felt you put on the bottom of paperweights if you want.
I tried a few ideas for motorising, but speed is critical. I now have a sewing maching motor with foot pedel (off e-bay, where else) which one day I will attach to my mark 3 cresting jig- I haven't quite mastered Smoggies hand-rolling method, maybe because my paws aren't so big as his.
Incidentally, what paint are you planning to use? Smoggie uses Humbrol enamel tinlets whereas I use acrylic (stuff for railway modellers, Ian Allen does it at a sensible price)- I can't stand the smell of solvent/thinners.
