Nice one JB! Is it a compass bow or Victorian profile?
| ||||
Why am I not surprised! Oh, by the way, I've just ordered my first longbow, bamboo backed lemonwood with bubinga core. Not a compass bow (to be honest I wont be able to do much apart from target and the occasional clout for a while) but I can draw to the ear with it for now, and I couldn't miss out on the bargain! £180 brand new including delivery and 1 year's full warranty. I am planning on getting a hickory/lemonwood compass bow from Pip probably next year though ![]() PS. I should recieve it tomorrow, before 3 ![]() edit - yes, I did mean bamboo backing and lemonwood belly, don't know where I got what I typed from! oops!

Hickory and Lemonwood is nice too. I am just making one at the mo' Hickory back, Greenheart core and Lemonwood belly. Lemonwood is a really nice wood to work with.

Sorry guys, I completely fumbled that post! The bow is bamboo backed, with a bubinga core and a lemonwood belly, sorry! From what I've heard that's a pretty good lamination?

Got my bamboo backed Osage bow from Keith Rayner at Yew Tree Archey this morning. Self nocked Victorian 76" 50lb @ 28" but tillered to 33" for my 32" draw. It's a really beautifull bow. Only taken it to 3/4 draw over 96 arrows so far but even so it seems very fast and acurate. Already seem to be getting better groups than than I nomally do at 40 yards with my current bow. I may be at the Fraternaty of St George shoot this weekend so I will be able to see how it compares over distance with the Bickerstaffe as well. Wouldn't be able to compete with the bigger arrows but I'll be interested to see what it does with flights. http://www.yewtreearchery.co.uk/cust...4-n5m-as96.htm

Sounds like a lovely bow! Just curious, why self-nocked?

From what I've read it seems to me that horn nocks were needed because Yew is a soft wood and it enables thiner therefore faster limbs. With Osage Bamboo the limbs are thin and fast anyway so I thought I'd try it self nocked. I have to say that it looks really clean and natural so I'm pleased with my choice. I'll try taking a picture to post here so that you can see what i mean.
