osage with bamboo backing, roughly 55lb @28". and damned fast too! making it myself, work in progress


im told its the bamboo that gives it such a fast cast compared to other woods. One of the guys at the club has a Gary Evans bamboo backed longbow and its a work of art, and watching it shot at 35m last week the arrow trajectory is so flat its amazing.

Hmmph, next time I go to China I might see if I can find a bowmaker. There must be one in Shanghai.

I know a kid with a self limewood bow. A tree fell down and they decided to make a bow out of it or something. Shoots well enough.

the new longbow for my birthday is made up of a orange osage belly, thin strip of purple heart, green heart, thin strip of purple heart and backed with hickory, its is 52lb at 28"

Just collected a new one from Mr Bickerstaffe, osage belly, greenheart core single growth ring hickory backing. Still getting it shot in, but it is at least as fast as the old one
