What is your Longbow made of ? (wood choices)

Hi all,

What laminates are your longbow made from?

Looking to get one made, so very keen to see what wood choices people have gone for, and are happy with.

Mine is being made with Hickory, Greenheart and Lemonwood. I'll let you know how it shoots when I get it.

Hickory, Purple Heart and Lemon wood.

Didn't know any better when I bought it, but it is a good bow.

I would go for a bamboo back without a doubt. Bamboo makes the bow very fast and fantastic for longer distances. Much sweeter to shoot as well, worth the extra IMO.

If I was having a bow made, I would have a bamboo back, osage orange front, and possibly a middle laminate. This would make a good fast stable bow.

Kae.

I really must get out of this habbit of people agreeing with me, its starting to make me think I may have an idea about what i'm saying, lol.

My original bow is a Bickerstaff and has lasted 4 years so far. Its no longer as fast as it was, and has a good set to it now, but I can't bare to part with it (nor can I afford to, lol).

I know this thread is about the bow, but I'd like to just say that making a set of longbow arrows needs as much, if not more attention than making a set of recurve or compound arrows. If your going to spend a lot of money on a bow, there is no point using bargain bin arrows. Make sure they match the bow or it will be a real waste!

Kae.

All advice welcome Kae.

Think I will get my arrows from Little John as their prices seem more reasonable than most, and heard good things about them.

Keep your longbows coming - even if your choice has been said before this will just add weight to it being a popular choice.
