Where to get bow staves Was just about to order some osage staves and bamboo backings from the USA but apparently the postal rules have changed so instead of the $30 or $40 USPS shipping cost anything over 5ft long can't go by regular mail and the couriers want close to $150! Anyone know where to get this sort of stuff in the UK or Europe as the one UK supplier I knew of has stopped doing such things? Cheers David

I recently got four staves of Osage from a guy off ebay from the USA. Two were over 62" and the shipping was $105 and i got them in 10 days. The guy takes the backs down to one ring which saves a heap of time and seals the ends and back. So in all i paid £230 for these staves plus the £40 import VAT we get stung for this end. Not bad for three top quality and one less so staves. The guys name is Le_enterprises. Here is a pic of what i got.... ![]() Three are straight and one has a little twist. No Knots on any and only one pin on the thin ringed stave.

Also if you need bamboo nip down to B&Q where in the garden section they have 6ft poles of the stuff in diameters of 3" plus which will give you four backings with a little work. If you own a jointer the boo is dead easy to reduce to backing size and they cost four quid a pole! Here is my first attempt at backing an old Slazenger Lemonwood bow with boo i got from B&Q... ![]() Steve.
