Teehee, we'll get you out in the field yet

I was going to suggest that we introduce ourselves on Sunday, but then I remembered I'd just been reading the other thread and you'd said you couldn't go.

But - you don't have to wait until you come south to Swansea to have a go at field. Cyril John (Dinefwr) has a new course in Llanwrda (probably the nearest field course to you?) and is holding some 'have a go' field sessions over the next few months. Dates are on the WAA website under 'tournaments'; location and map available here: http://www.gnasfield.co.uk/diary2007.htm#march.

Why not give Cyril a call? I don't suggest emailing him - he is not known for regular checking of the in box.

Uws

Mistake... by the time you come down to Swansea the Bowmen of Gower will have a field course setup.

Flighty... I shot down the Uni from early 80's until early 90's. The guy I mentioned who had the scholarship must have finished about 1990 may be 2 years later max. It was quiet down there then but at least with 3 of us shooting we could shoot upto 21doz in 3 hrs on a Saturday afternoon. That was 8 or 12 at a time blank boss. Shame I let it slip during the summer.

Actually no, I'd forgotten about that one. Of course I don't know exactly where you are, and Mid Wales/Powys covers a rather large area...
Llanwrda is between Llandovery and Lampeter, and is about an hour's drive (maybe an hour and a half?) from Builth.

I can't speak for other clubs, except that everyone's so friendly in the archery family that I can't imagine it being any different elsewhere, but certainly at Pentref we often get visitors turning up to shoot and they are made very welcome. We're still shooting indoors at the moment; however as it starts to get lighter in the evenings people will start venturing out to get some practice on slopes etc. Normal rules apply re warning signs and shooting partners etc.

Cyril's 'come and try it' days are being arranged (I suspect) for a couple of reasons: he's got a new course and wants to attract existing field archers to it; he knows he's got a lot of target archers within easyish reach and wants to get them out in the field. Other than that though, the only details I have are the ones on the WAA website. Go on - I dare you to phone him up and book yourself in. Or (better still from my point of view as tournament organiser) get yourself to Pentref in the middle of April and have a go at a proper two-day event. Entry form on the GNAS Field website...

Sounds fun, Bird! I was obviously too busy taking myself seriously, drinking too much and dyeing my hair black to notice much in the line of sports... Apart from the odd rugby player...

We are here!!!

I'm sure you'll be glad to know that before you get snaffled by all these other clubs, yes the University Club is active and going strong. We meet twice a week on a Monday evening and Saturday afternoon and compete in the South Wales and West University League (against Bath and Exeter) and in the BUSA (British University Sports Association) Indoor and Outdoor Championships.

We have recurve, compound, longbow and barebow archers and generally have a fair bit of fun. We even go field shooting a couple of times a year.

You can find all the details of the club (as well as photos, news, message board, etc) at the following link. Look forward to seeing you next year!!

www.uwsarchery.co.uk

(we go to Wye Valley for our field shoots)

woo... i was hoping that someone from Swansea Uni was on here, and it appears that someone has joined.

I'm looking forward to trying field, but i doubt that i would take it up as a serious shooting style, and i'm also looking forward to shooting against a fresh set of people
