University of Wales, Swansea Archery Club

I was wondering if anyone has met people from UWS AC at various events (BUSA, BUTC etc) and could give me a rough idea of what standard they're at for when i go down south and join them at some point in September

I'm told the club is reasonably active and that they get out and about to tournaments. Other than that I fear I don't know. My son's at Lampeter, where the archery club seems to be a bit hit or miss. Swansea, by all accounts, are better organised than that. Anyone here from Bowmen of Gower? They're more likely to know the Swansea crowd.

Sorry if that was a tad incoherent - I'm tired after a very wet and cold field shoot today.

You can find all previous BUTC/BUSA results on

I'm from the bowmen of gower. A few from the Uni shot with us last year (outdoors) when it looked like they might be losing their field. Nice bunch of people from what I remember.

Ade... tidy bunch... thats not what you thought of their constant nattering on the line Swansea Uni used to be one of 2 unis in the UK that offered an archery scholarship. One lad from llantarnam, Gary Jones, was a student there in the late 80's and he received funding towards comps and equipment. Dont know if its still available. As with all uni clubs the social side is almost the main interest. Indoors they just about manage 20yds and they shoot on a Monday evening and saturday afternoon. Kelvin Haines from Neath archers is their coach.

Always welcome at the bowmen of gower.

Sorry to interrupt but it amazes me that I was at Swansea late 80s/early 90s and never met a solitary archer! Where did they hang out? Not the Cricks , obviously. Just think how much better I'd be if I'd started then! (I could hardly be worse, it's true...)

I know Kelvin and I've shot with him. He's a good man and very helpful. You could do a lot worse than him as coach. Also, if the uni club don't come up to scratch, you'd presumably be welcome at Neath and at Celtic (Cwm Gwrach, off the A465 Heads of the Valleys road). The only real problem is transport if you don't have access to a vehicle. Of course, if you're one of those lucky students who can drive, then the whole of South Wales with all its variety is your mollusc.

(Don't forget there's a rather fine field course in the Rhondda, hint, hint... )

Wow... i'm having deja-vu... some other people (including Mary-Ann) have been trying to get me to try field, and i'm thinking about giving into the pressure and actually having a go when i'm down in Swansea
