Could this be the fuel costs kicking in already?

that plus the fact that the average archer doesn,t want to shoot 12 doz arrows plus all the walking... its only the archers who want to get mb/bm scores that need to shoot the longer rounds

I'm not sure I agree with that. I am nowhere close to MB, and don't think I will ever be.

Unfortunately 3 of the 16 were me and my 2 kids. Would have been my 9 year-olds first full tournament...shame.

I don't think it helped that one of the other big West Midlands clubs happened to arrange a world record status shoot on the same day as the West Midlands championships. I am not trying to apporition balme, since I do not know the full details. I will say however that I am sure it made things difficult, since their shoot could be used towards ranking points.

Ah, well. Have got to try and find another shoot for a 9 year old armed with a compound... scary!

See you on the line sometime soon John.

Would it not make sence if our governing body had to approve competitions, that way we might not have competitions clashing with each other?

In a small area, e.g. Scotland, tournament organisers have a vested interest in avoiding each others weekends

Even within a large English County surely this is possible.

most people will chose a fita over a york /hereford.

petrol is an issue for more than most at the mo.

wrs tournies cannot be less than 50 miles apart on the same weekend.(thats been the way for years.)

It is a pity to hear that the shoot has been cancelled - I would have entered, but had a Gloucestershire Qualifier on the same day.

Seems a bit strange that a region would allow clubs to potentially damage each others shoots, as it potentially damages a clubs reputation in the area.

Actually:-
a) Record status is granted by the governing body
b) "Most people" might disagree with that (see several other threads)
c) agree
d) Back to the FITA thing again, doesn't affect Imperial rounds.
I have been banging on for years about the need for more co-ordination which, IMHO, can only come about if the governing body becomes assertive. Something along the lines of: protected dates for National Champs; a couple of dates for regional Championships; a couple of dates for County Champs; rest available for clubs (RS, WRS, or NRS).
Add in: one set date for National AGM; one set date for regional AGMs a month beforehand; one set date for County AGMs a month before that; all club AGMs to be held in one month before that.
And then, by golly, we have a co-ordinated sport.
(And, if anyone asks who decides the dates, I do - it doesn't matter so long as a decision is made)
