| | ViewsWelcome to the AIUK Archery Wiki Cartel Triple ArrowFrom AIUK WikiCartel Triples were originally released as the Doo Sung Olympian. The Triple is an Aluminium/Carbon parallel arrow and is at the top of the Cartel range. Other arrows produced by Cartel are the X-PERT, Smart and Junior. The Cartel Triple brand is also used for other Cartel products.
[edit] ShaftThe Cartel Triple is an aluminium/carbon arrow. The shaft is parallel like the Easton Navigator, rather than barrelled like the Easton ACE. It is constructed from a 7075 grade aluminium core wrapped with high density carbon fibre[1].
[edit] SpinesAs Cartel measure the spine of the Triple by a method different to that used by Easton the spine codes on Cartel shafts should not be directly compared to the spine codes on Easton shafts. It is probably better to think of the Triple shaft code as a product code rather than a spine rating. Presented below is the Cartel/Doo Sung spine chart for the Triple. Please note that many archers have found this chart to be unreliable. Comparisons, made on AIUK, between Triple spines and Easton spines (based on the method used by Easton) are outlined after the chart.
[edit] Spine ComparisonsThere have been a couple of extensive threads on AIUK with regard to Cartel Triple spines and comparison to Easton products: Cartel Triple ACE spine equivalent and Triples Spines Tested. These threads have provided 3 sets of (sometimes conflicting) data that can be used to compare Triple shaft sizes to Easton spine equivalents. Please note that this spine data is presented only for informative purposes when selecting Cartel Triple shafts. If in any doubt about spine selection please ask your retailer. Firstly are measurements made by John Magera, originally posted on the Sagittarius Archery Blackboard, and reposted on AIUK:
[edit] Problems fitting componentsThe maunacturing process can sometimes leave a kind of sticky resin on the inside of the Triple shafts, especially at the nock end. This can make it hard to insert nocks and pins into the shaft and can result in damage to the shaft if too much force is used[5]. This problem can be avoided by removing the resin from the end of the shaft. One method is to gently work out the material by hand, using a suitable drill bit. Be sure to take care with this method as the shaft can be damaged if too large a bit is used and too much force applied. Another method is to gently heat up the shank of a point, or pin nock, and insert it into the nock end of the shaft. This may take a few attempts and will melt the resin, enabling nocks and pins to be inserted into the shaft[6]. [edit] ComponentsCartel produce points, nocks, and nock pins for the Triple shafts. A number of other manufacturers also produce components that are compatible with Triple shafts, and are arguably of higher quality than the Cartel components. [edit] PointsTwo manufacturers now produce points for the Cartel Triple. Cartel produce the official break off points, while non-break off points (in custom weights) are produced by Arrowsmith Components. [edit] Cartel PointsThe original Triple points produced by Cartel were stainless steel break off points which screwed into a brass collar. However, these points were prone to bending[7]. Cartel now produce a one piece stainless steel break off point. The Cartel point sizes refer to the shaft size that they will fit (eg. a 300 shaft size will require a 300 point) and are not interchangeable.
[edit] Arrowsmith Component PointsArrowsmith Components produce custom points for the 300-900 Cartel Triple shaft sizes[8]. The have a 'short bullet point' head and a longer shank than the Cartel points. They are not produced as break off points but a range of weights are available. Despite their appearance they are not milled from a single piece of stainless steel but come in two parts - point head and shank. The shank is securely bonded to the point head with Loctite adhesive. The use of excessive heat when removing points (flame applied directly to the point) can cause the adhesive to fail[9]. This can be avoided by immersing the point end of the arrow in hot water until the glue, used to secure the shank into the shaft, softens. By using this method the adhesive in the point should be unaffected. If a point head does come loose from the shank they can be repaired by using any good cyanoacrylate adhesive (eg. Super Glue).
[edit] NocksDifferent nock options are available for most Triple shaft sizes. These are Cartel's own Triple nocks, Beiter nocks and pin nocks. [edit] Cartel NocksThe only nock that is available for all Triple shaft sizes is the Cartel nock. This is an overfit nock that is similar in style to the original outsert nock for the Easton X10. The quality of the nocks, and inconsistancies in size and fit, has been questioned on various internet forums[10]. [edit] Beiter NocksThe only Triple shaft sizes that cannot accept a Beiter nock are the 1100 and 1200. The 300-700 can accept Beiter inserts, while the 400-600 and 800-1000 can accept Beiter outserts. A 'hunter nock' option for the 300-700 is available for compound shooters using a d-loop. At the present time Beiter do not produce an in-out nock that will fit the Triple.
[edit] Nock Pins (and Pin Nocks)Four manufactures produce nock pins that are compatible with the Cartel Triple - Cartel, Easton, Arrowsmith Components and Alternative Sporting Services. Cartel nock pins are the only ones that are available for all Triple shaft sizes. However, concern has been expressed at their durability[12]. While not actually designed for the Cartel Triple shaft, Easton Vector Pins (size 480-530) will fit some Triple shaft sizes (300-700). However, production of the Easton Vector arrow, and its associate components, ceased in 2005[13]. Arrowsmith Components produce nock pins that have been specifically designed for the Cartel Triple shaft. They are available for the 300-700 size and 800-900 size shafts[14]. Alternative Sporting Services also produce nock pins for the 300-700 and 800-900 size shafts. All of these pins can then be used with either Easton Pin Nocks or McKinney Pin Nocks (produced by CarbonTech) and Alternative state that the Beiter 150 Pin-Out nock will fit their 800-900 size pins.
